India-US relations are true, tried and tested: US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti | India News – Times of India
AGARTALA: US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Thursday reiterated the drive to further enhance Indo-US relations, saying that ties between India and the US are deep and broad, and Americans’ enthusiasm for India has not waned. He was delivering this keynote address at the US-India Defense News Conclave: Stories of US-India Defense and Safety partnership in Delhi.
In a press release on Friday, event organizers CUTS International said Garcetti emphasized that trade, technology, people and security are at the heart of this vital partnership. “We know that heads think alike and hearts feel alike, but we need to know that our feet are aligned as well.”
“Our relationship is not a bet; it is a commitment and a friendship that is true, tried and tested. It is not a win-or-lose or zero-sum game; it is all about trusting each other without hope of reciprocity. When we stand together with our friends, we can ensure that right can make might. When the two greatest democracies come together, it reflects how much we value principle as a guide to peace in the world,” Garcetti emphasized.
He maintained that the United States is in India for the long term and the leaders have pledged to go further in technology, defense, startups, technology and space. He said, “We want India to be a place where we come to fix our ships, find great jobs and learn each other’s systems and training. Don’t take this relationship for granted; think of it as a marriage that takes effort.”
This event was the culmination of a series of sessions designed to foster meaningful discussions on the US-India defence partnership. The aim was to bring together experts from both countries and create awareness about the growing partnership in the Indo-Pacific and beyond, among traditional and online media professionals across India, the press release said.
The experts suggested focusing on maritime security, space cooperation, ocean diplomacy and ‘CEOs of bilateral partnerships: co-design, co-develop and co-produce’, which focused on building a modern defence industrial ecosystem and improving joint R&D and production capabilities.
However, Joint Secretary for International Cooperation in the Ministry of Defence, Vishesh Negi, said, “India and the US are natural partners in the 21st century and beyond. This partnership has a robust focus on defence and security, along with promoting regional stability and ensuring common prosperity for India and the United States. What we have now is a very robust military cooperation, where we exercise together, and the main reasons are the use of similar technology and the interest in the Indo-Pacific region.”
