NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has a busy schedule for his last day in the United States.
On Wednesday, the congressional leader will meet several US congressmen on Capitol Hill and attend several other meetings before leaving for India.
According to Indian Overseas Congress president Sam Pitroda, Rahul Gandhi’s three-day visit was an event. On Tuesday, he attended a fireside chat at the University of Texas, a large community event with nearly 4,000 participants, and a community dinner. Upon arrival at the current venue, Gandhi met with government officials and spoke to students at Georgetown University.
Pitroda said the details of the meetings with US lawmakers are not yet clear, but that there will be interactions with a significant number of people from Capitol Hill, including members of Congress.
“Rahul Gandhi is visiting the US for three days. We had a whole day in Dallas yesterday where we had three main events, Rahul Gandhi had a fireside chat with the students in Texas, then we had a big community event with almost 4,000 people and then in the evening we had a community dinner. Then today we came here and had a few meetings with the administration, friendly meetings with the people we know personally and then we interacted with the students of Georgetown University. Now we are here to interact with about 600 Indians. From here we will have dinner. Tomorrow we have meetings on Capitol Hill. We have a meeting of the National Press Club, we will have a talk with a think tank and several other meetings,” he told reporters.
Addressing the Indian diaspora in Herndon, Virginia, the opposition leader continued his criticism of the BJP, claiming that the fear of Prime Minister Modi among the people has disappeared after the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“Something has changed after the elections. Some people were saying ‘Darr nahi lagta ab, dar nikal gaya ab’ (We are not afraid anymore, the fear is gone now). I find it interesting that the BJP and PM Modi are spreading so much fear, and the pressure from agencies on small businesses, everything disappeared within seconds. It took years for them to spread this fear and it disappeared within seconds,” Rahul said.
“In the parliament I see the Prime Minister standing at the front and I can tell you that Mr Modi’s idea of a 142 cm bust and a direct connection to God is all in the past now, all that is history now,” he added.
