Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Gameplay Deep dive details Puzzles and more
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle got an in-depth gameplay dive on Monday that provided more details about the game’s combat, exploration, and puzzles. Publisher Bethesda also sheds more light on the premise of the story as Indy joins the hunt for a priceless stolen relic. The action-adventure title, which tells an original Indiana Jones story inspired by the films, will be released on December 9 for PC, Xbox Series S/X and Game Pass.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
The nearly 15-minute gameplay deep dive video starts with Indy finding a relic in a crypt. In typical Indiana Jones fashion, removing the relic from its pedestal causes a cave-in as the crypt begins to collapse. With the help of his trusty whip, Indiana Jones escapes the crumbling cave.
The game’s story begins with a pause that alerts Indy to a stolen relic, Pete Ward, audio director at developer MachineGames, said in the deep dive video. We are also introduced to other characters who are part of the adventure: Gina, an Italian journalist searching for her missing sister, and Indy’s rival Emmerich Voss, who is ruthlessly hunting for mysterious artifacts around the world.
Although there is plenty of action, Indy will have to look for clues and trinkets that will guide him on the adventure. We see the titular archaeologist walking across snowy mountains, exploring ancient crypts and jumping across platform sections. Solving environmental puzzles will be the key to progressing or finding optional hidden secrets, the developer said.
Indy’s trusted tools
The deep dive also details the versatile tools Indy will have at his disposal, from the multi-function whip to a torch that aids exploration and lights new paths. Indiana Jones’ camera can take photos to reveal insights into historical locations and uncover crucial clues. It can also provide puzzle tips. Indy is also helped by his diary, which starts with a blank page and fills with clues, photos, maps and notes as you progress through the story.
In certain story sections where Indiana Jones needs to access restricted areas, he can disguise himself and walk around unnoticed – very reminiscent of Hitman games. In addition to smaller environmental puzzles, the game will also contain larger, more extensive puzzles.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Fight
The deep gameplay also showcases the game’s combat: players can decide their approach to outwit their enemies or overwhelm them with brute force. In addition to their whip and gun, players have access to environmental weapons that can help end an encounter quickly before it turns ugly. And if there’s nothing lying around, you can always get into a fistfight. In close quarters combat, Indiana Jones can perform powerful combos, block incoming punches and deflect attacks to gain an opening.
Stealth is also an important part of combat. Indy can sneak behind an enemy, take him down and hide his body to prevent him from alerting other guards. Players can also unlock new skills and moves by spending the adventure points they’ve collected by completing missions.
As expected, the game places a strong emphasis on exploration. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will come with several open areas, where players can venture off the main path and explore side quests and mysteries. The game also features an underground fight club, where players can test their fighting skills.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle releases on December 9 on PC and Xbox Series S/X. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. The game will be released for PS5 in spring 2025.
