Instagram’s upcoming feature may let you share Spotify songs to Notes
Instagram may be developing a new feature that will allow users to share their currently playing songs on Spotify with others in real time, a tipster has claimed. The feature, called Share from Spotify, would work via Instagram Notes – short text updates visible in direct messages (DMs) that users can share with their followers. While Instagram currently allows users to post 30-second clips to Notes or currently playing songs in Story, it doesn’t work in real time. But that could change soon.
Instagram Spotify Integration
In a after On Threads, tipster and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi revealed that a new ‘Share from Spotify’ feature may be in the works. It would allow users to “continuously share” what they’re listening to on Spotify, suggesting it could work in real time. A leaked screenshot shows a banner that reads: “You can stop sharing at any time.”
Currently, Instagram users can share songs on Notes, but they can only do so via the social media platform’s song catalog, which they have to search for manually. While they can choose a specific portion of the song to share, its duration is limited to 30 seconds. The feature is speculated to allow Instagram to allow users to link their accounts to Spotify, opening up its vast library of music across genres and languages and enabling automatic sharing of currently playing songs.
The integration of Meta Platforms and Spotify’s app could go even deeper, however. Technologist Chris Messina told TechCrunch has reported that a new “SpotifyiOS.framework” has been added to Instagram — a move expected to happen around the same time as Instagram version 338.0 rolls out on iOS. It hints at the partnership resulting in more music-focused features on Instagram that leverage Spotify’s platform.
Instagram’s Song on Profile Feature
Last week, Instagram announced a partnership with American singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter to launch a new feature that allows users to add songs to their profiles that best match their mood or other preferences. According to Instagram, the audio track will not play automatically, but can be played by tapping the music icon. One of the first songs to make use of this feature was a short teaser of Carpenter’s song “Taste,” which was released last Friday.
The feature is already available for users on both Android and iOS platforms.
