Interfaith couple commits suicide in UP

meerUT: An interfaith couple, who lived in the same locality of Syana in Bulandshahr, UP and knew each other since childhood, were found hanging in their respective houses within a span of about 14 hours. Police said on Tuesday that the families of the 18-year-old woman, a Muslim, and her 21-year-old lover from the majority community were opposing their relationship and their desire to get married. The woman was angry about her family’s position and took her own life around 11:30 PM on Sunday.
When the man heard about her funeral the next morning, he was devastated and took the extreme step. His family found him hanging in his room around 1pm on Monday.
Bulandshahr SP (city), Shankar Prasad, said, “The young couple was found hanging from the ceiling fan in their respective houses. An autopsy was then performed on the bodies. No suicide note has been found so far. We have received complaints. of both the families and are investigating the matter in detail.” SHO Syana, Premchand Sharma, added, “In May 2024, the couple had eloped and a case was registered by the woman’s kin alleging that the ‘husband stole their daughter had kidnapped’. The man was arrested because the woman was still a minor that time he stayed in prison.
