Internet suspension lifted in districts of Manipur Valley | India News – Times of India
IMPHAL: The Manipur government on Monday lifted the temporary suspension of internet services in the five valley districts with immediate effect. Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar said the state government was following the prevailing law and order situation and decided the internet suspensionwhich was imposed on September 10 as a preventive measure in the public interest.
On September 13, the state government “conditionally” lifted restrictions on broadband services.
In an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, he said, “The State Government has decided to lift all forms of internet blocking in the State of Manipur imposed in good faith as a preventive measure in the public interest.”
Internet connectivity was temporarily suspended in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts from 3 pm on September 10 following student protests demanding the resignation of the DGP and the security advisor over their alleged inability to handle militant attacks.
The protests resulted in clashes with security forcesin which more than 80 people were injured, including students and police officers.
All Internet users are requested to refrain from activities that could lead to situations in the future that would require suspension of Internet services, the decision said.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had said in a social media post, “The internet ban in the state will be lifted and services will be restored. I urge everyone to use the internet responsibly and not share or post any unnecessary or inflammatory content that can disrupt peace and harmony in the state.”
