Intimate final post from young female aerial worker who was killed alongside a tradie in a mysterious late-night burglary is revealed – as new details emerge about her troubled past

The young woman shot dead during a mysterious late-night home invasion had posted to social media just hours earlier as new details of her battle with addiction emerged.

Charlyze Hayter, 19, was killed when she and an unknown man armed with a gun broke into the Rye home of tradie Jackson Gilmour, 29, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in the early hours of Monday.

It is understood Ms Hayter hit the tradie with a baton and demanded he hand over his wallet and other personal belongings as she rummaged through his drawers. But he shot her before being shot in turn by the unknown second intruder, who then fled and remained on the run.

Mr Gilmour and Ms Hayter were treated by paramedics but both died at the scene.

In her latest Instagram post uploaded on Sunday, Ms Hayter shared a mirror selfie in black lingerie, showing off her prominent tattoos as she smoked.

The post includes a short video of Ms Hayter throwing back her hair and puffing on a cigarette.

A third image from the post shows a corner of a room with a blackboard on a door, covered in scribbled graffiti, while the walls were covered in permanent marker.

The post has since been flooded with tributes from friends.

The Instagram account, set up a few weeks earlier, is littered with selfies of Ms Hayter.

“My old account has been permanently disabled, oops,” her bio reads.

Mrs. Hayter was once a talented aerial photographer who performed circus-style acrobatics.

The teen showed off her skills on a separate Instagram account, which hasn’t been updated since December 2020.

Many clips show her hanging upside down from a hoop high in the air.

“The highlight of my circus experiences in 2019,” Mr Hayter captioned one video.

‘I had the time of my life at the Australian Circus Festival.

‘I want to thank everyone who made this possible.’

The Australian Circus Festival bills itself as the ‘International Olympic Games of Circus’ and is held every year in Brisbane.

However, outside of sport, Ms Hayter appears to have had a difficult life battling addiction.

A lengthy Facebook post from her mother celebrated her daughter’s 16th birthday in 2021, but regretted not having the “right words to express how wonderful I think you continue to try to overcome your personal challenges every day.” .

‘It breaks my heart to see how you sometimes struggle with what’s going on in your head. I would do anything to make it easier for you,” her mother wrote.

‘But from the difficulties in life we ​​grow and learn and it determines who we ultimately become.’

The post concludes: “I wouldn’t change a thing about you. I am extremely proud of you and the sensitive, caring, empathetic. loving young adult you are growing up in, you make my heart swell’.

Jackson Gilmour was woken when Charlyze Hayter and an unknown man armed with a rifle burst into the property shortly after 4am.

The mum shared other posts urging Charlyze to be ‘kinder to herself’ by tagging her in a detailed Facebook post shared by US motivational speaker Mel Robbins.

She also tagged her daughter in a Facebook ad for an Addiction Kickboxing Muay Thai class on the Mornington Peninsula.

In 2019, the proud mother announced via Facebook that Charlyze had again been selected for the Australian Circus Festival.

“We’re running away to the circus again,” she wrote.

Mrs Hayter’s grandfather Bob said her death had rocked the whole family.

“I loved her very much,” he told the newspaper Herald SuN. ‘This has upset the whole family.’

‘Charlie was a lovely girl, she probably went on the wrong side of the tracks, but we hoped for the best for her.

‘He’s absolutely devastated. It is very difficult to talk to him (Charlyze’s father) about it. At school she was a very smart girl. We had high expectations of her.’

Police investigating Monday’s fatal home invasion believe Ms Hayter and the other unknown man were known to Mr Gilmour and that it was a ‘targeted attack’.

Mr Gilmour, affectionately known as Jack to friends, had lived in the area for more than a decade.

His female roommate survived the burglary and called the police.

It is understood she hid in the bathroom after waking up to the sound of the man and woman bursting into the house.

Mr Gilmour had reportedly become isolated from his old friends in the months before he died, fearing he had fallen in with a ‘bad crowd’.

An old friend of Mr Gilmour told Daily Mail Australia he was still in shock over the death of the carpenter and plumber who grew up in the region.

“(His mother) doesn’t know that,” said an unnamed friend.

“She thinks he just defended himself in a domestic violence situation.”

Detectives could be seen searching the area for evidence as they worked the crime scene

The friend said it would be news to him if Mr Gilmour had access to a firearm.

“I didn’t know he had a damn gun, that’s for sure,” he said.

His friend claimed Mr Gilmour looked ‘different’ when he last saw him alive.

“I saw him about a month or two ago. He wasn’t the same,” he said. “You don’t want to associate yourself with that stuff.”
