iPhone 16 Pro feature rumors: The biggest upgrades we expect
This year, as in most years, we’re expecting four new iPhones to be released, each of which should mark an improvement over its predecessor. But it’s likely to be the Pro models that will feature the biggest upgrades.
With Apple’s September 9 showcase (read: iPhone 16 launch) fast approaching, it’s no surprise that we’ve been hearing tons of rumors about what those upgrades will be. While nothing is confirmed just yet, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Apple’s next best iPhones.
Below, you’ll find more information about the key new features and upgrades we’re expecting in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Bigger screens
With its 6.7-inch display, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is already one of the larger phones on the market, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max looks set to be even bigger. Multiple leaks have revealed that the device will feature a 6.9-inch display.
The iPhone 16 Pro is also said to be larger than its predecessor (6.1 inches) and now 6.3 inches.
This increase in screen size may not translate into a much larger overall size, however, as leaks suggest the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could feature smaller bezels than the current models. In other words, they could simply make better use of the space already available.
However, this design change would give you a larger iPhone screen to enjoy videos, games, and apps, without making the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max much more difficult to use with one hand.
A powerful A18 Pro chipset
It probably won’t surprise you to hear that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to be more powerful than their predecessors. After all, you can pretty much guarantee that any new iPhone model will get a chipset upgrade.
Still, this is a potentially exciting improvement, because while the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are still among the most powerful phones in the world, there’s a good chance the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will blow past all rivals.
That extra power could be useful for countless things, including powering the on-device AI features we’ve come to expect as part of Apple Intelligence. So if you want one of the best AI phones around, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are worth considering.
A new button
Not too long ago, we heard rumors of a button-less iPhone , and while such a product still seems to be in Apple’s future, the company now seems to be going the other way. Numerous reliable sources claim that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will indeed be the iPhone 16 Pro. earn a button.
This is presumably called a ‘Capture’ button, and leaks suggest you’ll be able to use it like a physical shutter button for taking photos and recording video. But some sources add that you may be able to focus the camera with a light press, before taking a photo with a harder press, and that you can zoom in and out by swiping across it. So this ‘Capture’ button could be a pretty versatile key.
Additionally, operating the iPhone’s camera should be a lot smoother and more like using a real camera if you have a physical button for taking pictures.
Better cameras
Speaking of cameras, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max also appear to be getting some upgrades in the photography department.
Both phones are rumored to get a new 48MP ultra-wide camera, up from the 12MP sensor on the current models.
One or more of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro’s cameras could also get a stacked camera design, which could improve low-light performance. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to get a 5x telephoto lens, up from the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3x.
This 5x zoom camera is said to be the same one already found in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, so it could close the gap between the Pro and Pro Max models. That said, there’s a small chance that the iPhone 16 Pro Max could get a new ‘super-telephoto’ camera, capable of zooming even further – though that particular upgrade doesn’t look particularly likely considering no recent leaks mentioning it.
