iPhone 16 Pro reportedly gets the periscope lens from the Pro Max model
Apple is reportedly still two months away from unveiling its next-generation iPhone family. However, camera details for the iPhone 16 Pro series have now surfaced online, implying that Apple is adding higher-end features to the Pro models rather than a cheaper iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are also expected to come with a tetraprism 5x zoom lens. Last year, Apple used this lens exclusively on its top-end iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple orders more periscope lenses
From a report of DigitTimes In Asia, Apple is looking to expand the use of periscope lenses for its upcoming iPhone 16 series and a few major suppliers have secured more orders for the lenses. The report, which cites industry sources, states that Taiwanese lens module makers Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) are expected to be the major suppliers for the tetraprism camera components. This could enable 5x optical and 25x digital zoom
Largan supplied periscope lenses for the iPhone 15 Pro Max launched last year, and GSEO is likely to join as a new supplier. This indicates that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will get an advanced tetraprism 5x lens. Apple packed a tetraprism 5x zoom lens exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year, while the iPhone 15 Pro was limited to 3x optical zoom.
Expected camera upgrades for iPhone 16 Pro series
In addition to the optical zoom capabilities, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature 48-megapixel primary cameras and ultra-wide cameras. The most expensive iPhone model could feature an advanced 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 main camera while the iPhone 16 Pro is said to get a 48-megapixel Sony IMX803 sensor. This sensor is also available on the existing iPhone 15 Pro models.
All four iPhone 16 models are believed to come with the same A18 chip. A new Capture button could be coming to the iPhone 16 Pro.
