iPhone 16 series gets new, longer-lasting battery: report

The iPhone 16 series is still at least two months away from launch, but there are several rumors suggesting what we can expect from the upcoming series. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will reportedly offer improved battery capacities compared to their 2023 counterparts. The Cupertino-based company is increasing the energy density of the battery in the iPhone 16 series to deliver a longer battery life, claims supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Apple is also expected to use a stainless steel casing that wraps around the battery. This would also help the company meet the European Union’s requirements for replaceable batteries in smartphones.

New iPhone battery could be up to 10 percent denser

Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that using stainless steel casings for iPhone batteries will help Apple comply with EU regulations while increasing battery cell density. Using stainless steel casings for iPhone batteries will allow for a five to 10 percent increase in cell density while meeting safety requirements, achieving two goals at once, he said.

Kuo earlier suggested that stainless steel housing will make battery replacement easier in the next iPhone models. This would help Apple meet the requirements of the European Union. Sunway is expected to become the main supplier of stainless steel battery housings for the new iPhone 16 series.

We’ve heard speculation about the iPhone 16’s features and it’s ranged from larger displays, a new action button, and AI-powered features. The iPhone 16 Pro models are also expected to come with an A18 Pro chip.

The regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could be powered by an A18 Bionic chip based on TSMC’s 3nm process. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro is said to sport a 6.3-inch display, up from the 6.1-inch of its predecessor. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to sport a 6.9-inch display, up from the 6.7-inch of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
