iPhone 17 series may get more RAM than iPhone 16 family

Apple is set to announce a new family of iPhones on September 9. The iPhone 16 launch is just a few weeks away, but rumors about the 2025 flagships have already been swirling around the web. A recent leak claimed that the iPhone 17 will feature more RAM than the upcoming iPhone 16 models. Last year, Apple equipped the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with 6GB of RAM. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max came with 8GB of RAM.

iPhone 17 expected to get 12GB of RAM

Weibo user Mobile phone chip expert (translated from Chinese) claimed that next year’s alleged iPhone 17 models will feature 12GB of RAM, up from the 8GB of RAM expected for the upcoming iPhone 16 models. The increase in onboard storage would help the 2025 iPhone models meet Apple Intelligence requirements. However, the tipster did not clarify whether this RAM upgrade will be standard across all iPhone 17 variants.

The existing iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have 6GB of RAM, while the Pro version has 8GB of onboard RAM. The iPhone 15 Pro models can currently run Apple Intelligence features.

All models in the iPhone 16 series are expected to come with 8GB of RAM. The iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch in the spring, is also said to feature 8GB of RAM.

Analyst Jeff Pu had reported in May that Apple would increase the RAM in iPhone 17 Pro models next year. Pu claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will get an A19 Pro chip alongside 12GB of RAM, while the regular iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim (replacing the Plus variant) will get an A18 or A19 chip with support for 8GB of RAM.

We can expect more rumors regarding the iPhone 17 series to surface online after the release of the iPhone 16 series. Apple will announce the new iPhone models on September 9 during its event dubbed “It’s Glowtime”. The brand is expected to announce a new Apple Watch and AirPods alongside the new phones.
