‘Irresponsible, baseless, rogue stories’: EC rejects Congress’ ‘slow’ update of Haryana poll results | India News – Times of India
“In view of the above, I am directed to report that the Commission unequivocally rejects your attempt to secretly give credence to irresponsible, unsubstantiated and uncorroborated rogue stories”, the ECI said.
Referring to a similar “unfounded” concern raised by Congress during the counting of votes for the 2024 general elections, the poll body said: “The Commission categorically replied that counting of votes is being conducted in accordance with Rule 60 of the behavior of the election rules. at the designated counting points and by the designated authorities in accordance with the legal and regulatory regime.”
The body pointed out that the complaint was filed by the national spokesperson of the Congress Jairam Ramesh has “not put forward any contrary facts regarding the delay in any of the constituencies in Haryana or J&K.”
Earlier in the day, Ramesh had filed a complaint with the Election Commission over the alleged delay in posting the Haryana Assembly election results on the official website.
Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh sent a letter to the committee, alleging that there was an “excessive and unacceptable delay” in updating election trends.
“You can imagine that this allows bad faith actors to create stories that undermine the process. You can already see examples of this playing out on social media. Our fear is also that such stories can then be used by these malicious actors to influence processes. where counting is still ongoing, i.e. in most counting centres. We request you to immediately issue instructions to your officials to update the website with true and accurate figures so that false news and malicious narratives can be countered immediately,” he said.
Trends indicate a solid majority for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Assembly elections in Haryana. Meanwhile, the Congress-National Conference alliance continues to hold the lead in Jammu and Kashmir.
