Is Apple Intelligence missing on your iPhone after installing iOS 18.2? This is what you need to do
The next wave of Apple Intelligence features have been rolled out iOS 18.2including the ability to create custom emoji and get information about what you can use Visual intelligence. They join existing improvements, such as writing tools and the Cleanup tool in Apple Photos.
But installing the latest updates won’t automatically add Apple Intelligence features to your devices. You must request access to Apple Intelligence and join a waitlist. Here’s how to get started with the new AI technologies.

Apple Intelligence features require powerful processors, so Apple has limited Apple Intelligence support to the following devices:
If your device isn’t listed, Apple Intelligence won’t work.
Why is there an Apple Intelligence waitlist?
During the developer and public betas of iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, Apple gradually introduced a series of Apple Intelligence features. While many of the new features run locally on your iPhone, some tasks are offloaded to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
Keep in mind that AI functions are computationally demanding. That’s why Google Gemini and OpenAI do most of their processing in the cloud. They can distribute a task across hundreds or thousands of processors around the world. Apple’s Private Cloud Compute technology does the same thing, but with a decidedly smaller number of processors.
Rather than risk overwhelming servers with millions of concurrent requests as iOS 18.2 rolls out widely, an Apple Intelligence waitlist gives Apple the opportunity to increase the computing load.

How to request access to Apple Intelligence
After you downloaded and installed iOS 18.2 on your iPhone, you made a backup before upgrading, right? – open the Settings app and go to Apple Intelligence & Siri (previously just Siri).
At the top of the settings, tap Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist > Join the Waitlist.
When will Apple Intelligence be available on my phone?
It is unknown how long it will take before you gain access. On my iPhone with the developer beta it took a few hours, while others arrived after just a few minutes. As things are scaled up for release, wait times may be longer.
For example, when I ran the developer beta of iOS 18.2, which included the new Image Playground app for creating Genmoji and AI-generated artwork, I had to wait several weeks before I could start playing with it. With iOS 18.2 now widely available, it remains to be seen what the waitlist will look like.
