Is this the worst Melbourne Cup Carnival outfit in history? Bec Hewitt hit hard for shocking miscue on Oaks Day
The Melbourne Cup Carnival saw Australia’s biggest stars once again give their all in a series of eye-catching race day ensembles.
Celebrity visitors have gone all out this year with their spectacular outfits at The Birdcage at Flemington Racecourse.
But not every look was a roaring success, and many of the wild and crazy outfits you’ve seen at the races over the years have resurfaced as Oaks Day kicks off on Thursday.
One in particular that has come into the spotlight is Bec Hewitt’s 2017 Kennedy Oaks Day outfit, which was brutally described at the time as one of her ‘worst ever’.
The wife of tennis star Lleyton Hewitt turned heads in a $650 Sass & Bide dress, which featured a quirky asymmetrical hemline and blue and orange block patterns.
She added another pop of color to her look with a pair of vibrant orange heels and accessorized with quirky cream acrylic earrings and a chunky bracelet.
Bec, 41, tucked her essentials into a pink clutch and secured a large red floral fascinator in her golden locks to complete her look.
However, critics weren’t exactly convinced by the unusual pleated dress as it was considered a fashion faux pas for the very stylish WAG.

One outfit that has come into the spotlight is Bec Hewitt’s 2017 Kennedy Oaks Day outfit, which was brutally described at the time as one of her “worst ever.”
Over the years, Bec has made sure to turn heads at the Melbourne Cup Carnival with a host of quirky ensembles.
In 2006, Bec surprised attendees at The Birdcage by making a memorable entrance in a unique top that resembled a boob tube, which she paired with white cycling shorts.
Not only did the Home and Away star appear to misinterpret the theme of the event by wearing black and white – colors traditionally reserved for Derby Day – but she also broke the Victorian Racing Club’s strict dress code.
According to the PRC website, garments such as short jumpsuits, midriff-length garments and shorts are not permitted.
Bec did not attend the 2024 Melbourne Cup Carnival, despite being a regular at the prestigious horse racing event over the years.
Big names including Nadia Bartel, Rebecca Judd, Samantha Armytage and Sylvia Jeffreys have all appeared at The Birdcage during the week-long racing spectacle.
International names such as Elizabeth Hurley and Nicky Hilton also flew Down Under for the world famous event.

This year, international names including Elizabeth Hurley and her son Damian (both pictured) flew to Australia for the world famous Melbourne Cup Carnival
Elizabeth attended the races with her look-alike son Damian and admitted her return to Australia was ‘bittersweet’ following the death of her ex-fiancé Shane Warne.
She started dating the Australian cricketer, born and raised in Melbourne, in 2010 before getting engaged the following year, but they eventually split in 2013.
Shane tragically died of a heart attack on March 4, 2022, aged 52, while staying at a luxury villa on the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui.
He and Elizabeth remained close friends despite their divorce, and he labeled their relationship as the “happiest time of his life,” confessing that he was angry that things didn’t work out between them.
