As the mercury in the northern hemisphere rises, the expectation also does for the next iPhone, which we are currently calling iPhone 17. But as the temperatures rise, I also get hot under the collar.
The thing that has created my patience is nothing at all … It is the lack of rumors about a High Refresh rate display for the iPhone 17 and its Plus Compadre. It has been literally years since I have disputed the lack of a 90Hz display or 120Hz on non-Pro iPhones, and it was only in the iPhone 13 Pro That we had such displays, even in the most premium iPhones.
For comparison: Android -Phones pushed 90Hz years earlier in Apple followed, and now all Best Android -Phones Offer 120Hz displays, often with adaptive technology, for prices that undermine the standard iPhone 16.
I hope that Apple will finally go to a High Refresh Tariefdisplay for its standard and plus iPhones, and I cross my fingers in the hope that this happens as soon as the iPhone 17.
What this brought in mind was a recent article from my colleague Thomas Deehan who question marks the need to proceed if the standard iPhones are pretty good. Although I partly agree with him, I also agree with a few comments about that article in which the non-PRO phones notice that they miss the slick displays of their more expensive stablemates and come without the telephone camera; Two things I would rather like on my iPhone 16 Pro Max.
But while I can live without a telephone camera – the telephone camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Still uses a 12 -megapixel sensor -I can’t swallow 60Hz display. Nor was you allowed.
I absolutely understand that there are still people – less technically skilled – who may not care about the renewal percentage of their display. In comparison with the old Android phones that used a 60Hz display, Apple manages to make its standard iPhones feel flexible and responsive; That is the nature of iOS and Apple with a tight grip on both the telephones software and the hardware.
I want a refreshing change
I also understand that sticking to a 60Hz display can help to get as much life as possible out of a battery on a single charge.
But after I have used 120Hz displays on different telephones for some time, I think that that speed, or at least 90 Hz, should be the minimum standard for telephone screens.
It not only makes the whole experience on both iOS and Android especially smoother and more responses, it is also more comfortable for my eyes.
The best phones with high-reefresh rate displays that I would recommend
I really think I would have trouble going back to 60Hz – but this article is more about why I think others should be able to enjoy higher refresh rates, especially if you are locked up in the Apple eco system or cannot exercise the money for one iPhone 17 Pro.
What is more, when Apple uses a technology or a technique, it reaches control, even if it is too late for the party. I think the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max offer some of the best High-Refresh rate OLED Displays on every smartphones.
By creating the iPhone screen standing 90Hz or 120Hz, Apple can help improve technology, perhaps make it more efficient or find ways to reduce eye tax.
The year is 2025 and I think Apple really should go beyond 60Hz displays when the rumors arrive iPhone 17 arrives. This makes the iPhone of the next generation the best showcase for iOS 26 And possibly usher in a chapter in which iPhones feel fresh again, and not as an iterative update.
