The legendary Jockey Rachael Blackmore has revealed what the next step before her is retired from the saddle.
And she was open the moment she knew she had to stop – after an Epiphany at Cheltenham Festival.
The former former big national winner The sport surprised when she announced her pension last Monday.
But in a conversation with BetfairShe said she had no plans yet to become a mentor or coach of aspiring -young jockeys.
Blackmore, 35, has written her first book – Granny National – and seems happy to take a complete break of the sport that has turned her into a global icon.
Asked what the future had in the store, Blackmore said: “Although it was retired probably a feeling in me was that I was a bit muted, it was not part of a huge plan to retire that Saturday.
“Nothing has been set up, but I am very lucky that I can take a few weeks and decide what the next one can be.
“It will be a very different life than the one I had before.”
The decision of Blackmore came out of nowhere and only a few weeks after she had enjoyed more Cheltenham success with an obstacle victory on Bob Olinger.
She said that when she left the house of jumping on the last day of the festival, she had a strange feeling that it could be for the last time.
Blackmore said: “When I left the weighing room in Cheltenham this year, I had a small thought in my head for the first time:” Will I come here again next season? “
“It was the first time that the thought had ever crept into my head. I didn’t know.
“Some of me thought I would be back, part of me thought I wouldn’t. I just said to leave myself [the decision] Until June and go to the break of the Jockey. I would all think about it. “
But after her 2021 National victory over Minella Times And ‘Most iconic ‘2022 Gold Cup -victory on a Plus TardShe said it was a final victory at Cork of all the places that convinced her that time was good to go.
Blackmore added: “I recently went to Cork [to ride Ma Belle Etoile] And I thought, “If this wins, then that might be the time to name it.”
“She won and the next morning I completely decided that it was.”
