‘It worked,’ say foodies after discovering how to ripen avocados in minutes
THERE’S nothing more frustrating than craving some creamy avocado toast with feta cheese and tomatoes, only to find that the star of the show is still rock hard.
Luckily, there’s a foodie who can help you with the ultimate trick. If you’re like us, the team at Fabulous, who love brunches, this is definitely a godsend.
According to the YouTube tipster, you can ripen avocados at home in just 10 minutes, all thanks to a clever, simple trick.
Sharing the ingenious hack, DaveHax explains on his channel: “Today I’m going to show you how to quickly ripen an avocado that’s not completely soft yet.”
The clever foodie suggested a simple method: wrap the popular fruit in aluminum foil, place it in a baking dish and then place it in the preheated oven.
The YouTuber, who has more than 7 million subscribers, said the oven temperature should be set to “about 200 degrees Fahrenheit,” which is about 90 degrees Celsius, the video showed.
The man also explained the science behind it: “When you gently heat the avocado, it releases gas that surrounds the avocado. That speeds up the ripening process.”
With an oven time of around 10 minutes, the clever hack ensures the creamy fruit is ready to eat however you like it.
However, it is best to let the avocado cool completely on a cooling rack first, the express reported.
If the avocado feels harder, you may need to leave it in the oven a little longer.
Once it has cooled, DaveHax gives the following instructions: “Once it has cooled, remove the foil and carefully cut it in half. Remove the pit and it should now be soft, ripe and perfect to eat.”
Although the video has gone viral and has been viewed over a million times, there is still debate about the effectiveness of the trick. Some observant viewers found that the avocado looked ripe before it was put in the oven, but others who tested the method confirmed that it worked.
A happy foodie exclaimed, “It worked.”
Someone else was also pleased with the results, reporting: “I tried this and it worked. I put it in the oven twice, for 10 minutes, at 200 degrees.
“So for me it took a total of 20 minutes.”
The commentator continued: “I put three avocados at a time on a baking sheet.
”After the 20 minutes I left them in to soften, then turned off the oven. So surprised that it actually worked.
