‘It’s So Millennial!’ Interior Designer Criticizes Trend, Lists Other Home ‘Icks’
THERE are some popular trends you should avoid if you don’t want your home to look cheap, at least according to these interior designers.
Robert Gigs and Ethan Gaskill have made a name for themselves on social media thanks to their viral videos sharing trends they hate.
In a recent video, the duo criticized a popular furniture trend as “so millennial.”
Robert posted a message on TikTok and confessed that it is “probably my biggest interior design mistake ever.”
So, what’s the trend?
According to Robert, brushed brass or matte gold hardware and furniture are an absolute no-go.
Whether it concerns lighting, furniture, taps or shower heads: they are all equally bad for the handyman.
“I think it looks cheap,” he said.
Robert even compared the matte gold trend to cheap products from Amazon, which is probably not what you want when you’ve spent money on something.
The worst violation is the combination of brushed gold and black, the home team continued.
“It never looks good,” he said.
So what should you do? Stick to silver and chrome for a more elevated look, Robert explained.
Or if you prefer the glamorous gold look, go for shiny gold. This looks much more expensive than the matte versions.
The interior design duo also criticized another popular trend: smart home design.
Most of the time, the technology is completely unnecessary, at least for Robert and Ethan.
“You don’t need a fridge with Netflix on it. You don’t need a shower head that gives you 500 different lighting options,”
The good news is that you can save some money with one, as the price of household appliances can rise considerably.
Even microwaves have become too complicated and it’s not nice to want to have the latest version with so many different settings.
“It’s so over-modernised, even the bins go up as you walk past. Just give me a foot pedal and I can do it,” Robert said.
It turns out the duo struck a chord with viewers on TikTok, with many of them agreeing with their take-home reviews.
One said, “Yeah, so why does my fridge need WIFI?!”
“Oh my god I’m a cleaner and I’ve cleaned so many beautiful homes that have been ruined by gold and smart devices,” said a second.
And another agreed: “Smart home design is like wearing a fancy outfit with an Apple Watch.”
