SOMETIMES confidence comes with age — and sometimes it comes with good makeup.

A woman spoke candidly about how she discovered the true meaning of beauty and a few tricks to turn back the clock.

Reddit user Hits twice told me how she looked and felt like the best version of myself.

“I’m only 32, but I’ve noticed my skin has changed over the last few years,” she said.

In addition to drier skin texture, she noticed fine lines and thinner skin around the eyes, in the form of “very, very slight sagging of the skin.”

She indicated that this could have been due to the weight gain she experienced during the pandemic.

But despite a few anti-aging tips, she had never felt better.

“Honestly, when I was younger I thought my makeup looked good, and now I think my face looks good,” she said.

“I don’t think I’ve ever felt more beautiful than I do now that I’ve found the hair color and makeup that really suit me.”

She was now happy with what she saw in the mirror and in her photos.

“Remember that there is nothing wrong with getting older and looking up to beautiful women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, and trying to combat your internalized biases against older women,” she said.

Bachelor star Daisy Kent swears by her drugstore makeup finds — she’s a ‘natural’ girl at heart

In fact, when she feels “anxious” about getting older, she thinks of an older woman she admires.

“It helps to remind myself that there are many 60-year-olds who are more attractive, cooler and more fashionable than I am at 32, and that age isn’t everything,” she said.

She may have known what was most important, but she also attributed her now-fresh complexion to a few simple changes.

If she learned one thing about growing older, it was that less is more.

“Too much makeup is difficult to tolerate at any age, but it’s even harder when you have rough/dry skin,” she says.

“You can’t get away with putting on makeup that easily. You have a better eye for aesthetics as you get older, and you notice it more. Heavy makeup is aging.”

Anti-aging tips

  • Make sure to keep your skin hydrated from within by drinking water and from outside by using a moisturizer.
  • Always wear sunscreen, even when you are not in direct sunlight.
  • Use vitamin C to brighten your skin. Don’t forget to apply it to your neck too.

She advised against using heavy foundation and concealer that can “crack,” as well as heavy eye makeup.

“[It] “When you travel, it can settle into fine lines, make the skin around the eyes appear darker and it’s damaging to the surrounding tissues,” she said.

She also loved makeup that could stand the test of time.

“I think it’s important to remember that super dated makeup looks were trendy and went out of style quickly. They weren’t classic looks, and classic looks always stay beautiful,” she said.

Other techniques have also helped her reshape her routine.

“When I was in my early 20s, I was a total ‘more the better’ kind of person, coloring as much as possible and always following the latest fad,” she says.

“There is nothing I appreciate more than a flawless base, radiant, beautiful eyes and an elegant or well-groomed look,” she added.

She also liked that she could wear her more ‘minimalist’ and ‘classic’ look both day and night and that it took less time.

If there was one tip she believed in more than anything else, it was to “hydrate your face thoroughly before applying makeup.”

“Wear hydrating products whenever possible, as they are less likely to dry out and settle into fine lines or give a dull appearance,” she said.

She believed in an age-old saying when it came to her anti-aging tips.

“Quality over quantity,” she said.

It was all about using less product, but with more pigment.

Instead of trying to hide problem areas, she recommends accentuating your favorite features.

“Instead of covering up my dark circles, I focus on my eyebrows and lashes, which makes my eyes pop more,” she says.

She also advised paying attention to your locks.

“Make sure your hair color flatters your face, if that’s what you want,” she said.

“Avoid trendy makeup styles that look good on camera but are harsh in real life,” she added.

“When you look better in real life, you feel more confident and you look better in photos too.”
