A HOMEowner has shared a handy trick that helps him keep his pool free of pests.
They explained that the technique kept insects away from their water as if it were “the plague”.
Reddit user Engineer_Measly789 the tip shared in a post.
“I’ve been enjoying the sun by the pool lately and I came up with this great idea,” they said.
“Remember those pesky little bugs that always crash your pool party? Yeah, those little bugs. Well, I’ve found a super simple hack that keeps them away without using those nasty chemicals.”
They explained that one cheap ingredient worked wonders in keeping pests at bay.
“All you have to do is grab a few stalks of lemongrass and throw them into the pan. [them] “around the pool,” they said.
“Insects hate the smell of lemongrass, so they’ll stay away from your pool like the plague.”
An added benefit is the refreshing scent that the lemongrass leaves behind, which makes the bathing experience even more pleasant.
“Plus it gives your backyard a nice fresh smell. It was a game changer for me this summer!”

A viewer said that a little dish soap kept the water clean.
“A little bit of dish soap to push the pollen from one side of the pool to the other,” they said.
“One tablespoon of dish soap in 20,000 gallons of water? Yes! And the tiles will love it.”
Another made a makeshift filter to keep their pools clean.
“Line your skimmer basket with a queen-size, knee-high hose,” they said.
“It catches all the small particles before they go to the filter.
