Aussie F1 Driver Jack Doohan was officially dropped by Alpine, with backup driver Franco Colapinto set to take a seat for the next five races of the season.
Rumors were bubbling in recent days that the Australian would be dropped from the side, with Doohan, the son of motor legend Mick, who did not score any point in Formula 1 this season.
The decision to rotate the 22-year-old for backup driver Colapinto comes after Doohan crashed from the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday at the first turn.
He also struggled in Japan and crashed during the second practice session.
Rumors were bibbling in recent days that Doohan had already received the news from his team, but on Wednesday Alpine officially confirmed that they were watching a different strategy for their line-up this season.
“As part of a continuous assessment of his driver line-up, the team has made the decision to rotate one of his racing chairs for the next five rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship 2025,” Alpine said in a statement.

‘BWT Alpine Formula 1 team therefore announces that Franco Colapinto will be linked to Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, prior to a new evaluation for the British Grand Prix in July.
“Jack Doohan remains an integral part of the team and becomes the first-choice reserve driver for this period.”
Some fans had had the feeling that writing on the wall had been for Doohan when Alpine Colapinto set up as their reserve at the start of the season.
The racing administrator born in Queensland was previously questioned at the arrival of the 21-year-old Argentinian driver in January, but had given an icy answer, claiming that he did not feel ‘undermined’ by the presence of Colapinto.
On Wednesday, Doohan also published a statement in which he admitted that he faltered the decision, but the team was grateful for their support and would work hard to get back to the schedule.
“I am very proud that I have achieved my lifelong ambition to be a professional Formula 1 driver and I will be grateful to the team for helping this dream,” said Doohan.
‘It is clear that this last chapter is a difficult one for me to take, because as a professional driver I naturally want to race.
‘That said, I appreciate the trust and dedication of the team. We have long -term goals as a team to achieve and I will continue to make my maximum efforts in any way that I can to help them.
“For now I will keep my head down, continue to work hard, watch the next five races and keep haunting my own personal goals.”
