England wing Jack Nowell has admitted he would like to follow his Exeter and international team-mate Sam Simmonds in the move to France.

No. 8 Simmonds will join TOP14 champions Montpellier at the start of next season, turning his back on not only Exeter but any chance to add to his list of test caps.

English players representing a club abroad are not available at Test level. Exeter rugby director Baxter has hinted that Simmonds is unlikely to be the last English man to leave his club.

Jack Nowell admitted moving abroad to play the game has always been one of his ambitions

Nowell, the British and Irish Lions, who has played his entire professional career at Sandy Park, is of interest to a host of top French clubs, including Racing 92 and Clermont Auvergne.

Asked on Monday about his future, Nowell confirmed interest in a European move.

“I made it clear earlier that one day that (moving abroad) is something I would like to do,” he told talkSPORT.

“Whether it’s next year or the year after that, I’m not so sure yet, but I’m in a position where I’ve always had a contract with the club.

“This is the first year that I don’t have a contract for next year. For me there is a lot to play for and a lot to go.

“All I can focus on is this year and whatever comes will come. We have four big games this fall and a huge Six Nations that we want to make up for last year.”
