Raju accused the police of torturing him on the orders of Jagan after he was arrested three years ago on sedition charges for “disturbing communal harmony and attacking government dignitaries”. Raju had won the Narsapuram seat in the 2019 LS elections on a YSRC ticket, but fell out with Jagan, also the party leader, within months.
The Nagarampalem police in Guntur registered the case on Raju’s complaint. The Undi MLA has alleged third-degree torture by then DG of CID PV Sunil Kumar, then anti-corruption bureau DG P Seetharamanjaneyulu and ASP Vijay Pal in custody on the instructions of then CM Jagan. “PV Sunil Kumar threatened me that he would kill me if I criticized Jagan Mohan Reddy,” Raju had said in the complaint.
The doctor named in Raju’s complaint is Dr G Prabhavathi, director of Govt General Hospital, Guntur. Raju alleged that the doctor had given a certificate falsely stating that he had not sustained any injuries due to assault in custody.
As a YSRCP MP, Raju had openly disagreed with Jagan over a decision to convert Telugu government schools into English-medium schools and even alleged that there was a scam in several government schemes. YSRCP had in July 2020 requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to disqualify him as an MP for anti-party activities. However, the Speaker never took a decision on the request. Raju had also written a letter to PM Narendra Modi, accusing Jagan of promoting evangelism in Andhra Pradesh.
In his complaint, Raju alleged that he was taken to the CID office in Guntur, beaten with a rubber belt and a stick and not allowed to take medicines for his heart ailment.
