‘Jail for CM…’: BJP’s sharp reaction to SC’s bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted conditional bail on Friday in the alleged liquor policy scamwhich drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which immediately called for his resignation. The Supreme Court granted the Aam Aadmi Party (MONKEY) leader bail under various restrictions.
The court has imposed a bail of Rs 10 lakh along with two sureties. Moreover, Kejriwal has been barred from coming to the office or signing any official files during the bail period. The court has also barred him from communicating with witnesses or accessing any files related to the case, and has directed him not to make any public comments on the merits of the case. The Delhi CM is required to attend all future hearings unless he is formally exempted by the court.
BJP leaders reacted strongly to Kejriwal, stating that the bail conditions underline his inability to function effectively as chief minister. “The court has held a mirror up to the Delhi CM,” the BJP said, demanding Kejriwal’s resignation.
BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticised Kejriwal and said, “After this verdict, Arvind Kejriwal should immediately resign as Delhi CM. But Arvind Kejriwal will not do so as there is no shred of morality left in him. Kejriwal has been granted conditional bail and despite that, he is holding a constitutional office. There is no wrong in saying ‘bhrastachar yukt, CM abhyukt.'”
Bhatia continued his attack and said, “The Honourable Supreme Court has once again shown a mirror to your hardened dishonest sinner, your convener Arvind Kejriwal. The corrupt Arvind Kejriwal has been granted conditional bail.” He also said that Kejriwal should resign, calling him “shameless” and “There is not a single shred of morality left in him.”
The BJP spokesperson went further and accused the AAP leader of holding office while he was embroiled in legal trouble: “A chief minister holds a constitutional office and he comes out after paying a bail of Rs 10 lakh. He is an accused and a case is pending against him. Does Delhi want such a chief minister whose DNA is full of corruption in every drop of every vein?”
He also pointed out that several AAP leaders, including former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and MP Sanjay Singh, are also under investigation or have been charged. He remarked: “What kind of party is this? There is no morality left.”
BJP leader Sajid Yousuf Shah also echoed similar sentiments and said, “The Supreme Court is an autonomous and individual body and its decisions are respected by all political parties. The Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Arvind Kejriwal is a slap in the face of those who said the BJP had something to do with his release.”
