James Maddison has had to defend himself on social media after being questioned by a Leicester fan about his ‘respect’ for the club.
The 25-year-old took to Twitter to wish former team-mate Wesley Fofana the best after the French defender completed a £69.5 million transfer to Chelsea on Wednesday.
After Chelsea unveiled their latest signing, Maddison responded to comments from the supporter, while also saying that Fofana’s move was “probably best for all parties”.

Maddison described Fofana as a defender’s ‘Rolls Royce’ after his £69.5million move to Chelsea
However, Maddison had to defend himself after his respect for the club was questioned
Maddison tweeted after Fofana was revealed by Chelsea: ‘Good luck with your new chapter little bro!!!
Pleasure to play with you and share a dressing room with you. A good friend and a half-half Rolls Royce @Wesley_Fofanaa.’
However, his friendly message to the former Leicester star has met with some criticism from the club’s supporters.
One user commented: ‘Please have some respect for the club and the fans. He fucks us.
“Don’t take a five-year contract and then jump to the first ‘dream’ step that gets you double your salary.”
Fofana who joined Leicester in 2020 was eager to leave to join Chelsea
Maddison defended his comments as he fired back: “Probably a little harsh to question my respect for the club and fans just because I wished a team-mate and friend of two years the best of luck at their new club.
“I understand the frustration, but if a player is desperate to leave, it’s probably best for all parties to leave him alone.”
Fofana signed a seven-year deal with the West London team to increase Thomas Tuchel’s defensive options.
Maddison is also linked with a departure from King Power Stadium this summer, with Newcastle being one of the clubs interested.

The Foxes are struggling to bring in new players this summer but are hoping to sign Reims centre-back Wout Faes before the window closes today.
Leicester’s problems off the pitch have been compounded by their struggles on the pitch so far this season.
After five games, the Foxes are at the bottom of the table after one draw and four defeats.
