Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren wins confidence vote in assembly amid opposition walkout | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday floor test in the state assemblywhich secured 45 votes out of the total 76 members. The floor test was conducted during a special session of the Jharkhand Legislative Editafter Soren’s swearing-in as Prime Minister on July 4 at Raj Bhavan, Ranchi.
During his earlier speech, Soren launched a subtle attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that “arrogant people in power” were trying to “silence” him, but that he was released from jail with the support of the people.
The Prime Minister was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court on June 28 after spending nearly five months in jail in connection with a land fraud case.
Before Hemant Soren’s return, Champai Soren was the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for a brief period of five months. He took oath at Raj Bhavan on February 2, following the arrest of Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 in a money laundering case related to the alleged land fraud. Hemant Soren had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest.
Hemant Soren’s previous tenure as Chief Minister of Jharkhand began on December 29, 2019, at an event called ‘Sankalp Diwas’, which marked the beginning of a new era for the state.
The JMM formed an alliance with the Congress and Lalu Prasad’s RJD for the 2019 elections and won a comfortable majority of 47 seats in the 81-member House of Representatives.
