Jilly Cooper urges couples to romp as much as possible because ‘sex is heaven’
RAUNCHY author Dame Jilly Cooper has urged couples to romp around as much as they can – declaring: “Sex is heaven”.
The writer, 87, also said her works are more than “just fucking”.
Speaking during a BBC documentary, Jilly – who has sold more than 12 million books of sex-filled fiction – said: “There’s little joy in life and I think sex is heaven.
“I think you should have as much as you can, and in books I think you should have quite a lot.”
Looking back on her teenage years, she added, “All I was ever interested in was men.”
She said the success of her books is still shrouded in snobbery, adding: “They call them bonkbusters.
“It’s a somewhat loose term because it’s not just banging.” An adaptation of her steamy 1988 work Rivals premieres on Disney+ next month.
The eight-part drama set on 1980s television stars Alex Hassell as the mad Rupert Campbell-Black, alongside David Tennant and Emily Atack.
Jilly previously said she hopes modern sensitivities about filming sex scenes won’t hinder the cast’s performance.
She told The Sun: “They have intimacy coordinators to help them. Can you imagine that?
“Having to have sex and being a bit bossy boots says, ‘Put that there and put that there’. It would be terrible.”
Of her male characters, Jilly, whose husband Leo Cooper died in 2013 aged 79, added: “All my heroes in all my romances were all very macho, they’re strong and they’re brave. They are not pressured as much as they are now.”
- IN My Own Words airs tomorrow at 10.40pm on BBC1.
