J&K assembly elections: AAP extends support to JKNC
NEW DELHI: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Friday said it will extend support to the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC). A formal letter of support was submitted by MONKEY for the Omar Abdullah-led government to the lieutenant governor’s office. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir has one MLA from AAP Mehraj Malik.
Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Mehraj Malik created history by defeating BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana by 4,538 votes on Tuesday (October 8, 2024) to win the election. Doda chair in the Jammu Kashmir Assembly elections.
AAP said on Friday: “Aam Aadmi Party will extend support to JKNC in Jammu and Kashmir. The letter of support has been submitted to the Lieutenant Governor. J&K Assembly has one MLA from AAP.”

Earlier on Thursday, four independent MLAs lent their support to the National Conference (NC), which allowed the party to cross the majority mark in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
In the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, independent MLAs Dr. Rameshwar Singh, Choudhary Mohammed Akram, Satish Sharma and Pyare Lal Sharma decided to support the National Conference.
Omar Abdullah said four of the seven independent MLAs have pledged support to the NC, increasing the party’s strength to 46 members, crossing the majority mark in the assembly.
The National Conference (NC) has won a decisive majority after the recent elections. The Congress Party, NC’s ally, won six seats, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) secured one seat. With these victories, NC now has a clear majority in the assembly.
Omar Abdullah was unanimously elected leader of the National Conference’s legislative group on Thursday, according to NC Chairman Farooq Abdullah.
AAP opens account in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured its first victory in the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
This victory marks AAP’s entry into its fifth state amid celebrations among its members. Later, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal expressed his appreciation for Malik’s well-fought elections and congratulated the entire party.
