NEW DELHI/SRINAGAR: J&K LG Manoj Sinha on Friday ordered the dismissal of two UT government employees, a pharmacist Naika and a teacher Zahir Abbas, for their alleged involvement in terrorist acts including murder of a politician and leakage of critical information about the security movement forces to Pakistan-based handlers.
While the terminations are the latest in a series of more than 70 dismissals ordered by the LG since 2020, this is the first time he has exercised these exclusive powers following the installation of an elected government in J&K last month.
The dismissals are seen as a signal to the Omar Abdullah government that Center and LG, with “exclusive responsibility for police and security affairs in J&K, will continue to exercise zero tolerance for terrorism “The focus will continue to be on uprooting terror elements who have infiltrated the J&K government and are encouraging terrorism while drawing salaries at taxpayers’ expense,” a J&K government official told TOI.
The dismissals of Naika and Abbas, both currently lodged in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal jail on terror charges, came after agencies confirmed their terror background. Sources said the two continue to become radicalized behind bars.
Naika’s links with Hizbul Mujahideen came to light when police began investigating the killing of local politician Ghulam Hassan Lone, while Abbas was detained for harboring three Hizbul terrorists in Kishtwar.
