JAMMU/SRINAGAR: In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks, senior Army officials are closely monitoring the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure operational preparedness and heightened vigil in the region. Lieutenant General Navin SachdevaThe General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 16 Corps, on Tuesday visited the forward areas in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
His visit comes a day after five army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, were killed and as many injured when heavily armed terrorists ambushed a patrol party in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
“The GOC of the White Knight Corps, accompanied by the GOC Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) Guluthi and Dera Ki Gali (DKG), conducted a security situation assessment,” the White Knight Corps said in a post on X.
During the visit, they were briefed on operational readiness and ongoing measures to maintain a robust operational position, the report said.
Officials stressed the need for increased alertness and vigilance around the clock, given the threat perception in the border region, the report said.
On Sunday morning, an army camp in Manjkote area of Rajouri district was hit by a firing incident, injuring a soldier.
In recent months, Jammu region, once known for its peaceful atmosphere, has witnessed a series of ambushes and terrorist attacks, particularly in the border districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Reasi. The recent surge in terrorist activities is believed to be linked to attempts by Pakistani proxies to revive terrorism.
At the same time, the GOC of the Army’s Strategic Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, assessed the security situation in South Kashmir.
“Commander of #ChinarCorps visited Rashtriya Rifles Battalions stationed in Counter Terrorism Grid in South Kashmir to assess the security situation,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the army said in a post on X.
The Corps Commander complimented the troops for their meticulous planning and execution of last week’s OP Modargham and OP Chinigam in Kulgam district, where six terrorists were neutralized and war material was recovered. Two soldiers also lost their lives in the two encounters.
“Chinar Corps continues to adhere to its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free,” the army said.
