A jockey appeared in the court accused of killing a pensioner who reportedly lay unconscious after a fight.
Levi Williams, 26, is accused of beating 71-year-old Richard Wingrove at least twice during the horror In Newmarket, Suffolk.
He was rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved tragically and died ten days later on March 18.
Williams appeared on Cambridge Crown Court Today accused of murder and manslaughter.
He spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address, but was not asked to introduce pleas.
Williams was detained on 27 June for a hearing for a hearing at the same court.
The court was previously told that a fight in which four men broke out on 8 March at 3.40 pm outside the Wagon & Horses Pub.
Williams, who drank in the garden, and a friend had initially been in a fight with the son of the victim, it was said.
Allegedly he threw at least one shot at Richard before he hit him in the chest – so that the oap fell to the sidewalk and the road.
The fall on the ground caused Richard’s fatal head injury, the court heard.
An investigation was opened today in the death of Richard, heard how he was found “unconsciously and not reacting on the sidewalk” when officers arrived.
Police Was called to the pub after reports of a disruption.
Richard received first aid from members of the public and paramedics before being taken to the hospital.
A post Mortem was performed, but the cause of death of the pensioner was registered as “further pending research“.
The full investigation was postponed pending the criminal proceedings.
Williams was initially arrested on suspicion of abuse that caused serious physical injury and then saved.
He was arrested again after the death of Richard and recorded for interrogation.
The student Jockey has driven 12 winners from 156 rides – with his four winners for Simon Dow the most he has driven for every trainer.
