Jon Landau dead at 63: Oscar winner known for his work on Hollywood blockbusters such as Avatar and Titanic dies in Los Angeles

Jon Landau died on Friday, July 5, at the age of 63 in Los Angeles.

The Oscar winner was known for his close collaboration with director James Cameron on numerous Hollywood blockbusters throughout his career, including Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009).

Landau’s death was confirmed by his son, per The Hollywood Reporterbut the cause of death has not yet been released.

The film producer is survived by his wife Julie and their sons Jamie and Jodie. Jon is also survived by his three siblings: Tina, Kathy and Les.

When news of Landau’s tragic passing broke, tributes poured in from across the industry, including Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman, who described Jon as a “visionary.”

“Jon was a visionary whose extraordinary talent and passion brought some of the most unforgettable stories to life on the big screen,” Bergan said in a statement, per Deadline.

“His remarkable contributions to the film industry have left an indelible mark and he will be greatly missed.”

Alan continued: “He was an iconic and successful producer, but also an even better person and a true force of nature who inspired everyone around him. Our thoughts are with Jon’s wife, Julie, and his family and loved ones at this difficult time.”

Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson and screenwriter Fran Walsh offered their condolences in a separate statement.
