Jose Mourinho had to be stopped by his staff before he was sent off on Sunday night in Roma’s Serie A match against Atalanta.
The 59-year-old Portuguese manager took to the field to protest to the referee after disagreeing with a rejected penalty at the Stadio Olympico.
Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo was knocked down by Atalanta centre-back Caleb Okoli in the 54th minute, but it was not awarded as a free kick, but as a foul on the other side.
Mourinho was shown a red card from center man Daniele Chiffi – and it’s not the first time the ‘Special One’ has been sent off the sidelines during his time at Roma.

The crowd responded to the incident by chanting and cheering their manager’s name, despite him losing his important presence on the sidelines.
Roma trailed 1-0 in the first half after Giorgio Scalvini scored after 35 minutes.
Mourinho has been in charge of Roma since May 2021, having previously led English clubs Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in a career that also saw him lead in his native Portugal and Real Madrid in Spain.
