JSW MG Motor India launches initiatives to improve EV infrastructure
JSW MG Motor India launched several initiatives aimed at improving the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in India at the DriEV.Bharat event held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi on Tuesday. It introduced new technologies to accelerate the adoption of EVs while improving the overall infrastructure. This included a new charging platform and a project on reusing EV batteries. During the event, the automaker also announced a partnership with Reliance Jio to introduce an in-car entertainment solution that will come to all MG vehicles.
JSW MG Motor India EV Initiatives
JSW MG Motor India is a joint venture between India’s JSW Group and China-based SAIC Motor to sell internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs in India. At the event, it debuted eHUB by MG, a platform that aims to simplify EV charging infrastructure by offering a single platform developed by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
With eHUB, JSW MG Motor India claims to make planning electric vehicle journeys hassle-free by introducing a simple process for finding, booking and paying for charging stations. To achieve this, it has partnered with leading providers such as Adani Total Energies Limited (ATEL), BPCL, Chargezone, Glida, HPCL, Jio-BP and more. MG’s eHUB is said to be available in 11 languages and comes with trip planning features. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the App Store.
Project REVIVE was also introduced at the event. With this, JSW MG Motor India aims to repurpose old EV batteries for energy use in schools and community centres. It has partnered with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and lithium-ion battery manufacturer Lohum to reuse healthy battery components. The company announced that it is conducting a pilot at a school in Mukteshwar.
With the world abuzz with artificial intelligence (AI), JSW MG Motor India has launched its AI chatbot called eVir. It has been developed as part of the EVPEDIA experience that claims to offer relevant information about EVs such as tools and calculators that help in calculating the cost of ownership, research papers and published materials, and government policies related to EVs. According to the company, the information will be available through interactive displays, educational videos and live demonstrations. The AI chatbot is envisioned as an on-the-go solution to answer drivers’ queries.
Partnership with Reliance Jio
JSW MG Motor India also announced a partnership with Reliance Jio to introduce an in-car experience – MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP) – which is said to cater to the entertainment, gaming and learning needs of the driver. This technology stack includes MG Store, an in-vehicle app store and voice commands in six Indian languages. Further, it is also said to bring Home-to-Car functionality that will allow the user to monitor and control their vehicle’s systems such as lock/unlock, cabin temperature and fuel level right from home.
The company says that the MG-Jio ICP will be available as standard on all future MG vehicles in India.
