NEW DELHI: Uproar doctors in training on Tuesday expressed their willingness to resume work once their agreement with CM Mamata Banerjee is implemented, while the Supreme Court asked the state to beef up security in every government hospital within two weeks and set up a comprehensive security audit mechanism within three days. complaints handling system and internal committees to investigate complaints of sexual harassment in hospitals, it was reported.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, speaking on behalf of the state, said the Chief Minister has given her solemn assurance that no coercive or adverse action will be taken against the junior doctors for their strike. This statement was immediately incorporated in the order of a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud and a bench of justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
When Sibal said the state would not take any action against the junior doctors for resuming duties and asked when they would resume work, senior advocate Indira Jaising, representing the junior doctors, told the court that the date would be fixed only after the general meeting of their association scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday.
Jaising also said that the junior doctors are satisfied with the meeting with the CM and the agreement reached therein. However, she insisted that the “administrative responsibility for the cover-up affair must be resolved”.
