Kamahl reveals the ‘secret addiction’ that cost him his 55-year marriage as he admits his relationship with wife Sahodra was ‘made in heaven, but the weather has changed’










Kamahl spoke of the “secret addiction” that cost him his 55-year marriage during an all-encompassing interview with A Current Affair on Thursday.

The 87-year-old singer revealed that a social media addiction led his wife Sahodra to leave him.

“I was isolated with my computer,” he admitted, revealing that he would spend up to five hours a day on social media.

He added: ‘I am consumed with politics. I tweet from morning to night, and I pay a terrible price for it.”

Kamahl also revealed that his wife was struggling to cope with his fame and the fact that he would be away from home for up to six months a year.

“I think she was sick and tired and frustrated,” he said of his wife’s decision to leave their marriage.

Speaking of their relationship, he added: “Ours was made in heaven, but the weather has changed.”

But Kamahl insisted that he harbored no enmity towards his wife, saying, “She is the saint, I am the sinner.”

The Hey Hey It’s Saturday star shared the sad news of the split on Monday, telling New Idea that he hopes the split is “only temporary.”

“I was isolated with my computer,” he admitted, revealing that he would spend up to five hours a day on social media

“She really is the wind under my wings. I realize now that I probably wasn’t the most considerate of husband. Fame can do that — it can distract you from what really matters,” he said.

“But I keep everything crossed, we can work through this difficult period because she is really my everything,” he added.

The Malaysian-born star — whose real name is Kandiah Kamalesvaran — has moved out of the conjugal home and lives alone in a country club on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Kamahl said he regrets taking his wife’s “mercy for granted” and wishes he had given her “more hugs” during their long marriage.

The estranged couple remains close, but gets together regularly for dinner: “She still cooks me her incredibly delicious lamb shank every two weeks.”

Kamahl married Sahodra in 1967 without his family’s approval, and they share two grown children, musician Rajan, 52, and singer Rani, 50.
