Doctor Moore is a skin specialist with an aesthetic clinic in Manchester, England, and has over 11 years of clinical experience.

In an interview with The US Sun, she said that bags under the eyes are one of the most common areas people are unhappy with.

She said the area can be difficult to treat and using the wrong methods can make the bags worse.

“This is especially true for eye treatments, such as tear trough filling and anti-wrinkle treatments for crow’s feet,” the doctor said.

Dr. Moore offered advice on how to safely address under-eye bags.

HOME REMEDIES

She said active ingredients such as retinoids, peptides and vitamin C can be useful in the skin care routine.

They help strengthen and restore the skin’s structure, which is ‘a must to reduce sagging skin’ and help reduce under-eye skin problems.

She said the formation of bags under the eyes is influenced by the way the face changes with age.

“The skin becomes looser and therefore sags more quickly and develops wrinkles,” she said.

“The layers of fat under the skin that fill the skin under the eyes decrease and what is left becomes saggy.

I’m 38 and I don’t have a single wrinkle around my eyes – it’s all thanks to my ‘layering’ skincare trick… and no, I’ve never had Botox

“The bones that support the eyes shrink.

“The efficiency of lymphatic drainage is weakened, causing fluid to accumulate. All of this means that looser skin and tissues can hang more.

“Either sag inward, creating cavities, or protrude outward, creating pockets where excess fluid can accumulate.”

She said that two other basic home treatments should be added to smoothen the skin under the eyes.

“Caffeine in eye creams is very helpful in reducing puffiness and using a gua sha regularly is a great option to promote lymphatic drainage,” she said.

“Try keeping it in the refrigerator to take extra advantage of the cool temperature which will further reduce the swelling.”

PRO TREATMENTS

Dr. Moore said regenerative treatments can be used alongside regular skin care to “accelerate” the healing of under-eye bags.

“Polynucleotides are the best choice for this delicate area as they strengthen and hydrate the skin and help with subtle volume loss without the risk of puffiness,” she says.

“Microneedling is also an option to address both the lines around the eyes and any bags that extend to the top of the cheeks.

“Energy-based treatments such as lasers and radiofrequency can also help tighten this area.”

She said that hollows under the eyes also require professional aesthetic treatment.

“If you see flat cheeks or hollows or dimpling under your eyes, this could indicate that support and loss of volume are contributing factors to your under-eye problems,” the doctor says.

“In this case, cleverly placed dermal fillers in the cheeks and tear troughs themselves can quickly resolve the complaints.

“But always be careful with this, if you are prone to fluid retention or have a natural weakness, this option is not for you.”

Dr. Anatalia Moore is a general practitioner and skin specialist with more than 11 years of clinical experience.

She told The US Sun that her goal is to empower patients with the knowledge they need to take control of their skin journey.

She said the basic principles of a beauty routine are the same for all ages: it should include an effective cleanser, moisturizer and SPF.

“For me, moisturizers are super important, even in place of products with active ingredients,” she said.

“Finding a well-balanced moisturizer that provides the right amount of hydration, replaces natural oils and seals them in, literally stabilizes your skin.

“This in itself can quickly soften the appearance of fine lines and texture, as these are often worsened by dehydration.

“It also ensures that the skin can function as it should.

“This allows it to heal faster, which can lead to fewer lines and wrinkles, fewer flare-ups of dermatitis and rosacea, and shorter-lasting, milder breakouts.”

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS

Dr. Moore said bags can develop early as a result of a genetic predisposition in families for weakness in the structures under the eyes.

She indicated that allergies, underlying health conditions, lifestyle and diet can make this worse.

“If you suffer from hay fever and allergies or have itchy, irritated or red eyes, I always recommend using antihistamines or anti-allergy eye drops,” she said.

“These will help to reduce any swelling caused by inflammation.”

She discovered that a diet high in sugar, processed foods and salt can slow skin healing.

She said increased inflammation accelerates the signs of aging and leads to fluid retention.

“If you try to avoid these kinds of things in excess and stay adequately hydrated, you can minimize the risk of fluid retention, which can worsen puffiness,” she said.
