‘Keep the ring and ditch the family,’ people scream as bride reveals her wedding blunder
IT’S no secret that planning a wedding can be a stressful ordeal, but for one bride-to-be, things turned tricky when it came to her dress.
Even though it was a bit old-fashioned, the bride insisted on wearing her mother’s old dress.
So when her sister-in-law decided to give her her own wedding dress from two years ago as a gift…
“Everyone started clapping when my sister-in-law announced that this was her official wedding gift to us and that she wanted me to wear her dress to the wedding,” the woman explained on Reddit.
“I tried to smile, but I couldn’t seem to hide my disappointment. Everyone started asking what was wrong.”
Although she tried to explain that she already had a dress, which had been passed down for generations, the family could not understand why she did not accept the gift.
Her sister-in-law couldn’t handle the rejection well and burst into tears over the ordeal. Even her fiancé thought she should just wear the dress.
“He sounded so angry and even said he couldn’t believe he had chosen to marry such a ‘bitch,’” she explained.
Things went from bad to worse when he criticized his mother’s dress, saying it looked like “an old rag” compared to his sister’s more modern dress.
“I tried to tell him how much my mother’s wedding dress meant to me because I promised her I would wear it,” she said.
After she explained the situation, other Reddit users urged her to call off the wedding.
“You just got a look in your future “If you continue in this relationship you will have to leave your entire family behind including your fiancé,” one person wrote.
A second agreed that it was time to end it, saying: “No, honestly. It’s also great that she’s not married to him yet. The whole family tried to manipulate her too.
“She would have become a punching bag for all of them. Imagine him calling her that for not wearing the dress. What other things could he do. This is madness. She has to go now!!”
The bride-to-be alerted users to the situation and wrote a new post a day later, revealing that she was calling off the wedding.
I’ve never felt so respected in my life.”

“I’m going to leave him for good now,” she said.
“I finally got him to sit down with me a few hours ago to talk about things and have a mature conversation.
“He was very dismissive and just spent most of the time scrolling on his phone,” she continued.
In fact, he still didn’t see her side of the story, claiming she was being “selfish.”
But when he tried to resolve the situation by offering to let her wear her mother’s dress to the ceremony, in addition to his sister’s dress for the reception, she knew there was no point in protesting.
“I admit I was a little lost because he said it like I needed PERMISSION to wear MY WEDDING DAY MY WEDDING DAY. I have never felt so disrespected in my life.
“I just sat in our bedroom and I’m sure it’s over after this.”
People praised her for quitting as soon as possible.
“You should keep the ring and ditch the family. Looks like you dodged a bullet,” one said.
And another chimed in: “I’m so glad you didn’t waste your mother’s wedding dress on a man like that.”
