K’gari: Dingo attacks four-year-old girl on Queensland island

A little girl has been rushed to hospital after she was attacked by a dingo on Queensland’s popular K’gari Island.

The four-year-old girl was bitten and scratched by the wild animal at Orchid Beach, on the island formerly known as Fraser Island, around 1pm on Saturday afternoon.

She was bitten in the chest and was left with scratches and bruises.

She was flown to hospital in Hervey Bay early Saturday afternoon in a stable condition.

A male dingo believed to be responsible for the attack is now being monitored by park rangers.

K’gari was hit by a series of dingo attacks in 2023.

In early July of that year, an eight-year-old boy was attacked and in June a ten-year-old boy was dragged underwater by a dingo.

In mid-July, a 24-year-old woman was hospitalised after she was attacked by a pack of dingoes while jogging on the beach.

A six-year-old girl was admitted to hospital in April with stab wounds to her head and hand after a dingo attack.

In total, more than 100 risky or threatening interactions between dingoes and humans occurred on the island last year.
