Kieran Shoemark takes a big ride in French Derby despite enormous prohibition

Hung Kieran Shoemark plays his’ Joker ‘to ride Charlie Fellowes’ Aas in the French Derby.

The jockey currently serves a nine-day ban and looked like a 10-1 shot Luther in the Prix du Jockey Club on Sunday.

But Jockeys in France can play a so -called joker once a year to eliminate a ban for a single day.

It has been a rough few weeks for Shoemark, who lost the track as John Gosden’s No1 and was stripped of the French 1,000 Guineas on Fellowes’ Shes perfectly through the stewards.

But he and fellowes will at least get the chance for what sweet revenge would be in Chantilly.

Fellowes said: “The rules in France are different, Jockeys cannot move dates of a ban as they can here, but Kieran can play a joker so that he can ride on Sunday.

“It’s great that he can come back to Luther, because he is a brilliant jockey and he knows the horse very well.”

Fellowes has also had a difficult handling of it lately and he was stripped when his Appeal Against Shes Perfect’s relegation was thrown away.

He said: “Maybe the Lord will look down and say,” You know what, he deserves a change in happiness. “

“Luther seems really in good shape, he is fresh and well and he will have a small piece of work for the weekend.

“It seems that he is screaming ten furlongs, but he has a lot of tactical speed, so I think he will be true.

“If you look back at the Guineas, it was close to a very strong pace, and the other three who run into the French derby during the weekend were all right from the back.

“We used a lot of gasoline to reach the position in which we were, and I am thinking of all the horses that ran in the Guineas, we have a rock-solid chance.

“My most important concern is that it looks like you are a big field and if you are highly drawn at Chantilly, slightly higher than 10, you have had it. I can’t buy a good draw at the moment, but maybe we are one.”
