Kieran Shoemark to compete against John Gosden in France after losing a job like Yard No1

Kieran Shoemark gets the chance to prove the ultimate point to John Gosden in Paris on Sunday.

He was arrested by Charlie Fellowes for the French 2000 and 1000 Guineas -where he will compete against two large gosden -runners who have just been dumped as the NO1 jockey of the stable.

Shoemark, 29, was expected to hold Gosden’s and Zanzoun respectively in the classics of the Colts ‘and Fillies’, but now he will ride against them in Longchamp on board Luther and she is perfect.

Gosden gave Shoemark de Elleboog only a few days after his defeat on the field of gold in the Guineas last Saturday, after which he apologized for driving with ‘too much trust’ in the aftermath of criticism from his boss.

“I really appreciate Jim and Rossa, they were very understanding when I spoke with them. I had discussions with my owners when we heard the news and they wanted to get Kieran.

“He is a brilliant jockey and we have two good chances in group 1’s at Longchamp, which is great. It would be incredible to win a big one together.

“Both Luther and Shes are perfect in brilliant form and I will come home very disappointed if they do not run huge races.”

Shoemark still drove to Gosden on Wednesday, finished last of seven in the Cheshire Oaks on Queen of Thieves, and he will continue to pick up journeys for the garden.

But Clarhaven runners will now be driven by ‘the best jockey available’ in large races and the chances of Shoemark will be greatly reduced.

Gosden said: “From now on we want the best available customs. We have eight Jockeys who have been retained to drive for owners connected to the yard and I have not had a retained jockey since William Buick.

“There is no fall -out, but it is the consequences of what happened at Newmarket during the weekend. We will now use the best available rider.”

Luther, who is a best priced 20-1 for the group d’Esai des Poulains on Sunday, was second to hold on to his return to Chelmsford and Fellowes thinks he is able to improve him.

Fellowes said: “I am still adamant Luther is one of the best horses we have ever had. We would probably have come close the last time to hold and I think we can improve more than hold.

“He has a bad bend of foot, he is well balanced, he goes beautifully around the track, we just need a good draw.

“Shes perfect is a big girl and she will not improve an end for her run. To be honest, I couldn’t be happier with one of them.”
