Return of the King! Cancer-stricken Charles’s comeback to Royal duties continues with Garter Day at Windsor Castle next week

King Charles he is expected to attend the Garter Day service Queen Camille in a week at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, Buckingham Palace confirmed today.

The service for the Order of the Garter on Monday 17 June will see the installation of four new Companions of the Order, including the Duchess of Gloucester.

Earlier in the day there will also be a private investiture in the Garter Throne Room in the castle where the four new companions will be invested. The other three are lifemates Lord Kakkar, composer Lord Lloyd-Webber and Air Chief Marshal Lord Peach.

Palace officials said Charles, Camilla and other members of the Royal family will leave the chapel by carriage after the service to return Windsor castle.

There is no confirmation whether this is the case Prince William will be present, but it is highly unlikely that his wife Kate will be present as she continues her treatment cancer.

Charles recently returned to public duties while still undergoing his own course of treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

The Order of the Garter is the oldest and highest order of knighthood in Britain, founded almost 700 years ago by King Edward III.

The Order includes Charles, who is Sovereign of the Garter, Camilla, several members of the Royal Family and up to 24 Companions chosen in recognition of their work.

Companions of the Garter are personally chosen by the Sovereign to honor those who have held public office, who have contributed in some way to national life, or who have personally served the Sovereign.

The appointment of the Duchess of Gloucester, Lord Peach, Lord Kakkar and Lord Lloyd-Webber was announced on 23 April.

Lord Lloyd-Webber described it at the time as ‘the greatest honor of my life’.

The theater impresario, whose hit musicals include The Phantom Of The Opera, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, said he was “humbled, grateful and, quite frankly, stunned.”

He is said to be the first person from the world of art and culture to become a member of the Order of the Garter.

The appointment is a personal gift from the king, without advice from ministers.

Lord Lloyd-Webber composed the national anthem Make a Joyful Noise for the King’s Coronation last year.

The honor of the Garter is generally reserved for those who have held public office, such as former prime ministers, but also for those who have contributed in some way to national life, served the sovereign personally, or are members of the royal family or foreign monarchs.

The Duchess of Gloucester is a long-time member of the working monarchy and is married to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, the Duke of Gloucester.

The order was founded in 1348 by Edward III.

Every year, Royal Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Garter gather at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle for a colorful procession and ceremony.

Under the watchful eyes of crowds of onlookers, they walk down the hill from the State Apartments to the chapel, dressed in blue velvet cloaks, red velvet hoods, black velvet hats and white ostrich plumes.

The order is limited to 24 regular members.

The appointments are announced on St. George’s Day, as is tradition, with St. George being the patron saint of the order.
