Calcutta Police stopped junior doctorsAbhaya Parikrama‘ gathering at large pandals during Durga Puja, the biggest festival in the state where people already take to the streets for pandal hopping.

The young doctors have planned an ‘Abhaya Parikrama’ rally where the protesters would visit some of the major Durga Puja pandals in the city to reach out to citizens and talk about their movements and demands.
The protesting doctors plan to distribute pamphlets detailing their demands for justice at various Durga Puja pandals in the city.
The protests were sparked by the rape-murder of a fellow doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, leading to a 42-day strike that ended on September 21 after the state government gave an assurance to meet their demands to comply.
Meanwhile, seven doctors are on an indefinite strike, which started on Saturday and entered its fourth day on Wednesday.
The trainee doctors had earlier suspended their ‘total work stoppage’ on Friday, causing significant disruptions to healthcare services in state-run medical colleges and hospitals.
The junior doctors’ primary focus is on securing justice for the deceased doctor, but they have also made additional demands, including the immediate removal of Health Minister NS Nigam, accountability for alleged administrative lapses and action against corruption within the department.
They are also calling for a centralized referral system for hospitals and medical colleges in the state, a bed vacancy monitoring system and the formation of task forces to ensure essential facilities such as CCTV, call rooms and washrooms at the workplace.
