L-plater has been handed a huge fine after doubling the speed limit and crashing into a house in Sydney
An L-plater has been fined and had his license suspended after allegedly exceeding the legal speed limit twice before crashing into a house in Sydney’s west.
Officers were patrolling Nottinghill Road in Regents Park, western Sydney, at around 5.10pm on Monday afternoon when they discovered an SUV allegedly exceeding the speed limit.
A speed limit of 50 km/h was posted in the area, but the offender, who was driving without L plates, is said to have reached a top speed of 107 km/h.
When police turned to pursue the speeding vehicle, they discovered the driver had left the road and driven through a fence, hitting a garage at a home just a few feet away.
Inside was an 86-year-old woman, who was not injured in the accident.
However, the crash caused “significant structural damage” to the garage and the front right corner of the building.
“The driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and submitted to a breath and drug test, both of which were negative,” police said in a statement.
