Large drones seen over New Jersey and other states remain a mystery
Large drones that have been spotted along the New Jersey coast and in states like New York and Pennsylvania for weeks are still a mystery.
According to information attributed to New Jersey State Police and Department of Homeland Security officials, and reported by The Associated Press and other sockets, the drones are larger than hobbyist drones, with a diameter of approximately 6 feet. They have been seen since mid-November near military research facilities such as Picatinny Arsenal in Wharton, New Jersey, and a golf course in Bedminster owned by newly elected President Donald Trump.
New Jersey Morris County Congresswoman Dawn Fantasia posted a lengthy description of a briefing with state police and Homeland Security on According to her, the drones appear to operate in a coordinated manner. The FBI, she said, is leading the investigation.
Officials have said some drone reports may be linked to aircraft and that multiple reports from a single drone could mistake a single aircraft for a group of them.
Flying drones in the area at night is not illegal as long as the device is registered with the FAA. But the reported drones appear to be larger than hobby drones.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said this the state is actively monitoring the situation, along with government officials, and, “There is no known threat to the public at this time.”
The FBI encouraged the public to call the hotline 1-800-CALL-FBI or upload photos and videos to tips.fbi.gov.
