Kendall reportedly confessed to strangling Garcia on June 12. He is now being held without bail and is facing charges of murder, sexual assault and battery.

An anonymous caller, who has not been identified as Kendall, called 911 and reported he had overdosed in a hotel room.

Security responded to the call and found Garcia on the ground with a cut to her jaw.

Emergency responders believed Garcia had overdosed, so Metro police were not initially called to the scene.

Paramedics took Garcia to Spring Valley Hospital. Doctors found no alcohol or drugs in her blood, immediately ruling out overdose as a possible cause of death.

Instead, doctors suspected Garcia was the victim of abuse, based on her injuries.

“Upon further inspection … it appears she was assaulted,” the nurse told the dispatcher about 15 minutes after Garcia arrived at the hospital. “We thought it was an overdose, but she’s not responding to Narcan or any of those medications.”

“Do we have any suspicious information at all?” the operator asked the nurse.

“No, there was no one there and like I said, it was an unknown caller, an anonymous caller,” the nurse said.

Garcia was declared brain dead and died a week after the incident at Palms Hospital.
