‘Get over it!’: Laura Woods joins fans who hit back at Richard Keys after criticizing Arsenal for celebrating their comeback win over Fulham ‘excessively’, leading them to the top of the Premier League
- Arsenal came from behind on Saturday to beat Fulham 2-1 in the Emirates
- The victory was exuberantly celebrated by the players, staff and supporters
- Richard Keys believes Arsenal ‘overcelebrated’ their win against Fulham
- Laura Woods disagrees and thinks Arsenal have every right to celebrate
- A number of fans agree with Woods after Arsenal returned to the top of the table
Presenter Laura Woods has jumped to Arsenal’s defense after Richard Keys accused them of ‘overcelebrating’ their 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday.
The Gunners fell behind with a goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic shortly after the break, but equalized via a deflected striker from Martin Odegaard.
The result maintained Arsenal’s 100 per cent start to the season and returned them to the top of the league table, but Keys was unimpressed by the enthusiastic celebrations at the Emirates Stadium.

Richard Keys thinks Arsenal ‘overfourded’ their win against newly promoted Fulham
“I understand that Arsenal fans are celebrating the way they did. I felt that the coach and his players celebrated a 2-1 win over Fulham too much,” Keys said on beIN SPORTS on Sunday.
“I think this kind of reaction to what happened yesterday from Arteta and co tells me how far they’ve fallen.
“Arsene Wenger would have cried out of the arena if his team had taken a 2-1 win with basically an own goal that was way off target until it suffered a deflection, and a present from Jay (Bernd) Leno. ‘
This is not the first time that Keys has criticized Arsenal’s celebrations after a positive result. On this occasion, however, Woods, who supports Arsenal, chose to hit back at her fellow presenter, claiming that the reaction to the win showed how Mikel Arteta has managed to get the club’s fan base back on the sidelines after some difficult periods in recent years.
“I don’t understand why we can’t suddenly celebrate victories. Let me tell you why: four wins out of four for Arsenal, you’re also missing key players in that win, Partey and Zinchenko,” Woods said on talkSPORT.
Laura Woods has defended the celebrations that took place at the Emirates Stadium
“Last season, at this point, we bet on this show for relegation for Arsenal and for Mikel Arteta to lose his job. So I don’t think that celebration was necessarily about beating Fulham. It was probably a combination of things. Also probably a lot of relief in there about the way Mikel Arteta turned that club around.
“Give us a little rest, give us some credit in this. I think a lot of it is also about rebuilding this team and rebuilding the relationship with the fans, which was so important to Mikel Arteta.
“To rebuild the relationship with the fanbase to the point where they celebrate after beating Fulham so many times, that’s positive for me, that’s great. That just goes to show that your fan base is fully engaged, they love what they see. It’s not just about who you beat, it’s the football they play and the position you place yourself in.
“It’s the Premier League, anything can happen. Just enjoy it while it’s there. Don’t rain on the parade of people. If you’re not allowed to celebrate and someone comes along and says, “Wait a minute, that’s a bit much! That looks like a Premier League party, why are you celebrating like you’ve won the league?” It’s just celebrating a game. It means something to someone. Get over it!’
A number of Arsenal supporters supported Woods’ stance, claiming the north London club had been unfairly targeted.
A supporter says Arsenal have been harshly criticized for their celebrations
Another fan seemed to suggest that Keys has a personal agenda against Arsenal
“If other teams win, they can celebrate. We can’t for Arsenal either. Double standards definition,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Richard Keys STILL talks about Arsenal. Unbelievable,” another supporter posted, alongside a smiling face emoji.
Meanwhile, a fan insisted that supporters will continue to celebrate Arsenal’s success, despite Keys’s criticism.
“We’ll keep celebrating… Let that sink in!!!” They wrote.
Arsenal are the only team in the Premier League to have racked up the maximum points so far this season, and they will have the chance to continue their winning streak when they host Aston Villa on Wednesday.
