Leicester City have set a deadline for a five-year deal for Reims defender Wout Faes.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is frustrated with his side’s lack of movement during the transfer window, but Faes is coming to bolster a backline that saw Wesley Fofana leave for Chelsea on Wednesday on a £70m deal.

The 24-year-old told LCFC TV: ‘It’s a great feeling’ [to be here]; it hasn’t sunk yet. This is the dream step in my career and I am very happy to be here.

“Year after year I am making progress and I hope to continue to do the same here. All facilities and knowledge are there to help me get even better.

“I will have to work hard, but I will give 100 percent to help the team.”

He added: “As soon as I drove onto the training pitch, I immediately had goosebumps.

“Some people have already told me that the training ground is great. I didn’t look on the internet on purpose, but when I saw it, it was a great feeling.

“It hasn’t sunk yet. This is the dream step in my career and I am very happy to be here.’

Leicester will be relieved to finally have an outfield tally this summer.

Their only previous work in this window was to free goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

Faes was cherished ten years ago in the youth academy of Anderlecht and came through the ranks alongside Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans.
