Little Nightmares 3 – Everything We Know
Little Nightmares 3 is scheduled to release next year, following a delay that was announced on May 31, 2024. So there’s still a lot to learn about the upcoming indie adventure and how it plans to build on the foundations set in stone by the previous two games.
It’s been a while since we saw anything substantial from the developers of Little Nightmares 3although we do know that it will be a more co-op focused experience. There have been a few teasers so far, but we’re still very much in the dark on a full release date.
With the original Little nightmares on our list of the best horror games, alongside our best indie horror games, the third installment in the series has a lot to live up to. That said, there’s still a lot we’ve got to learn about the game before it’s released. But if you were a fan of the first two games, it’s an upcoming game worth keeping an eye on. While we only have a very generous release window of 2025 for the game, we do know which platforms the game will be available on, and surprisingly it won’t be limited to current-gen consoles. You can play Little Nightmares 3 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, so there’s a huge variety of platforms to choose from when you’re ready to dive into the horror.

The reveal trailer for Little Nightmares 3 was shown off as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2023, and offers a fairly generous look at the title’s new setting, alongside its two new protagonists. Unusually, we won’t be revisiting Mono and Six from the original Little nightmares and its sequel, but that does mean this game has a whole new, blank canvas to build on.
In the trailer, we meet the two new protagonists alongside a number of new enemies, and get a glimpse of several new environments to navigate through. We also get our first look at the new set of enemies, including a monstrous baby and several large, humanoid creatures.
The end of the trailer gives a release window of 2024, along with a list of the platforms the game will be available on. The full trailer can be seen below:
Little Nightmares 3 story and setting
With only one trailer under our belt and not much other information out in the wild, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Little Nightmares 3. That one trailer does, however, give a surprising amount of information we can glean from that short reveal trailer. Little nightmares is a game that relies heavily on its lore, so we expect more information to surface as we learn more about the game’s release date. But for now, we have a nice chunk to get our teeth into when it comes to the game’s story and setting.
The story follows two new protagonists named Low and Alone, both of whom have different abilities that will enhance your experience with the game. While we don’t know the backstory of these characters, we expect more to be revealed as we get closer to the game’s release date. Both characters are armed with a weapon that is unique to them, and you can select which character you want to play as, which is a first for a franchise.
While we don’t know much about the backstory of these characters, we do know that they work together to escape the setting, in a manner similar to how Mono and Six work together in Little Nightmares 2We expect the duo to support each other in solving puzzles and possibly also in the game’s combat.
Whether the character you choose to play as will affect how the story unfolds is currently unclear, but it would be a cool addition to further the lore of Little nightmaresespecially since Supermassive Games is the team behind this game. Considering how the stories in both Until the dawn And The quarry that Supermassive would make it would be an intriguing addition to the Little nightmares series if your actions also had a butterfly effect.
As for the setting, Little Nightmares 3 takes place in a new environment called “The Spiral” which is described as a cluster of dystopian lands built on delusional delusions. As we get closer to the end of the year, we expect more information about the setting to be shared.
Gameplay of Little Nightmares 3
Of Little Nightmares 3 Being a puzzle-platform horror adventure game, there is a lot to expect from the spooky gameplay. We only got a brief look at the in-game content from the reveal trailer, but it seems to follow the same style of content as the previous two games. As such, we expect the game to feature a lot of traditional Little nightmares mechanics such as sneaking past enemies to solve puzzles in larger-than-life environments, alongside elements like tense chase scenes and platforming across different areas.
However, we expect the battle to be more prominent in Little Nightmares 3 as both Low and Alone each have a weapon. For players who choose to play as Low, you will be armed with a bow and arrow, while players who select Alone will be armed with a wrench. This could indicate more instances of fighting with various enemies, in addition to using these weapons for solving puzzles or quick escapes that you may need to navigate.
Exciting, Little Nightmares 3 will also be the first game in the series to feature co-op play, so you don’t have to play through the entire adventure solo. We expect this game to be one of the best co-op games, especially since Little Nightmares 2 it seemed like it was supposed to be a multiplayer game, but this feature was not implemented.
As a game that relies on two characters throughout its content, whether that be during puzzle-solving, platforming, or even as an extra set of hands during boss battle-style combat, multiplayer will be a huge benefit to the game. Along with information about the story and setting, we expect more to emerge about what the game has to offer to differentiate itself from the last two games.
In an 18-minute playthrough published by Bandai Namco, we get our first look at what co-op will feel like. While the vast majority of this trailer takes us through an entirely new setting, we do get a feel for the puzzle-solving element of the game and how crucial teamwork will be to progression. It seems like Low and Alone can’t live without each other, and for once, it might be better to play the game with a companion rather than completely solo.
It also seems like there will be times in the game where you’ll be separated from each other to solve puzzles. Interestingly, the game doesn’t use split-screen, and instead focuses on one character at a time when the pair is split up. Without couch co-op, this is an interesting way to handle separation, as one player effectively loses access to their character for a while, but it does reduce the risk of getting lost in the map.

Will Little Nightmares 3 be a multiplayer game?
Little Nightmares 3 will feature multiplayer at launch. You can jump into online co-op to control Low and Alone, or play solo with an AI companion. Unfortunately, there is no local co-op mode planned at this time.
Who makes Little Nightmares 3?
While the first two Little Nightmares games were handled by Tarsier Studios, Little Nightmares 3 is being developed by Supermassive Games under Bandai Namco. This is mainly due to Tarsier Studios being acquired by Embracer Group, with Bandai Namco retaining the IP rights to the Little Nightmares franchise.

Bandai Namco has its Gamescom 2024 line-up of games. It contains Little Nightmares 3making it very likely that we will see more of the game this month (August).
Little Nightmares 3 delayed until 2025
In a post on the game’s official TwitterDeveloper Supermassive Games announced a delay for Little Nightmares 3The release has been delayed until 2025, but no further information has been released yet.
18 minutes of Little Nightmares 3 gameplay released
We’ve gotten our first look at in-game content Little Nightmares 3 by a fairly long video which takes us through one of the game’s new settings – the Necropolis. We get a look at how the pair work together to get through the setting, as well as a brief look at combat and the game’s first boss.
Little Nightmares 3 does not support couch co-op
It has been announced that Little Nightmares 3 will not feature couch co-op in order to “preserve atmosphere and immersion.” While the title is the first in the series to feature some sort of multiplayer, players will need independent devices to play with each other. That said, both players won’t need a copy of the game, and like It Takes Two, a friend pass will allow a second player to join in.
