Liverpool staff’s Christmas party at city’s Anglican cathedral is CLOSED due to ‘drug paraphernalia’ found in toilets

Liverpool’s staff Christmas party – at the city’s Anglican cathedral – was halted early after suspected drug paraphernalia was found in the toilets.

Officials at the venue were moved to conduct searches after a medical emergency occurred during Thursday night’s glitzy party, which was attended by around 500 club employees.

The emergency led to concerns that drugs were being seized and subsequent checks of the toilets in the iconic building revealed a number of empty miniature resealable bags, which are often used to contain illegal substances.

As a result, it was subsequently decided to end the glitzy party.

Mail Sport understands that it has subsequently emerged that the emergency was not related to drug use.

The staff member involved was taken to hospital and has recovered well.

Bands had been hired to play at the city’s Anglican cathedral, the fifth largest in the world, and at least one set ended early.

According to insiders, the bars closed about 30 minutes in advance. After being sent away, some found alternative locations to go.

There are significant costs involved in the event, which is intended to thank non-football staff for their efforts throughout the year.

It is believed that none of the players or manager Arne Slot were present.

The iconic Church of England site is celebrating 100 years since its consecration in 1924 and is the seat of the Bishop of Liverpool and the mother church of the Diocese of Liverpool. It is the largest cathedral and largest religious building in Britain.

For the event, Liverpool’s badge was projected high on the windows of the chapel as the venue was bathed in red light.

A Liverpool spokesperson said: ‘We do not condone or condone the use of illegal substances at any of our venues or events.

‘We would like to thank the event team at the venue for their quick action and professional response to the unrelated medical emergency.
